Proposal and Policy Guidelines
We invite those interested in presenting at our 2027 Professional Development Conference to submit a proposal for review by our Conference Planning Committee. Speaker proposals are evaluated objectively with emphasis on the following criteria (listed in order of significance):
- Degree to which the proposed session meets the conference/program objectives
- Desirability of the topic
- Speaker's presentation skills and experience
Proposals must contain and convey sufficient detail to allow our Conference Planning Committee to understand how the proposed session will support the conference objectives. Selection is competitive, so you must submit a compelling and complete proposal.
Submission Details
Submission Period - July 13, 2026 - September 8, 2026, 11:59 p.m. CDT.
We will consider no more than two proposals from each speaker. Please complete a separate application for each proposal. We will not consider incomplete submissions.
Presentation Formats
Lecture Session
A traditional, instructor-led session designed to share knowledge and insights with a broad audience. Presenters deliver structured content supported by a PowerPoint presentation. Rooms are arranged in theater-style to accommodate forward-facing learning. Ideal for research findings, case studies, and best practice overviews.
Presenter Guidelines:
- Deliver a well-organized, educational presentation with clear learning objectives.
- Use a PowerPoint slide deck to support key points (avoid text-heavy slides).
- Incorporate real-world examples, data, and practical takeaways.
- Allow time for audience Q&A at the end of the session.
- Engage the audience through storytelling, or brief interactive elements when appropriate.
- Handouts, advertisements, and collection of attendee information is not permitted.
Industry Roundtable
An interactive, discussion-based format focused on collaboration and peer exchange. These sessions are designed for small groups and encourage open dialogue, networking, and idea-sharing among participants. There is no formal presentation or slide deck. Rooms are set with round tables to foster conversation and engagement.
Presenter Guidelines:
- Serve as a facilitator rather than a lecturer—guide the conversation without dominating it.
- Prepare a set of thought-provoking questions or discussion prompts in advance.
- Encourage participation from all attendees and create an inclusive environment.
- Keep discussions focused while allowing flexibility for organic conversation.
- No formal presentations or slides.
- Summarize key takeaways or themes at the conclusion of the session.
- Handouts, advertisements, and collection of attendee information is not permitted.
Length of Presentation
Presentations are in person, 1 hour, including 15 minutes for questions.

Short Description of Your Session

Use these tips to help create an effective description of your session:
- Highlight how the presentation will help an attendee solve a problem, overcome a challenge or launch a new initiative, and how what they will learn will directly impact their work/life.
- Create action-oriented learning objectives.
- Set accurate expectations. Clearly describe what the session will cover and highlight the learning activities an attendee can expect.
- Use active tense. For example, change “Strategies to improve safety management will be examined” to “Learn strategies to improve safety management.”
