Who We Are
ASSP’s Engineering Practice Specialty member community is the premier resource for ASSP members looking for technical knowledge and expertise related to engineering and occupational safety and health (OSH) issues. We provide a forum for you to discuss strategies and research that address the needs of practicing safety engineers.
What We Do
For ASSP members within the Engineering Practice Specialty, we provide the following:
- Networking opportunities via social media groups, conference calls and in-person meetings like the annual Professional Development Conference so you can connect with top industry professionals
- Professional development opportunities, including engineering and OSH-focused education that you can immediately be put into practice, mentor relationships that facilitate sharing knowledge, and volunteer and leadership opportunities to build your skills and enhance your resume
- Safety-related, engineering-focused content that you can put into practice and share with employers and colleagues to create safe, productive work environments that improve company reputation
Why It Matters
Engineers are a critical component to facilitating safety in the workplace. We enable our strong network of engineers to collaborate so they can have a real impact on the OSH industry and workplace safety. For example, our members have made significant contributions to protect those who work at heights and to prevent slips, trips and falls in the workplace — even helping to develop formal standards like the Z359 Fall Protection Code and ANSI/ASSP A1264.1-2017, Safety Requirements for Workplace Walking/Working Surfaces and Their Access.
