Biography

DSnyder PhotoDr. Daniel J. Snyder, Ed.D, CSP, CHST, OHST, CIT career spans 29 years of diverse global professional experience facilitating research, partnering with stakeholders, and creating sustainable solutions for effective Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) management systems. Daniel is a board-certified safety professional and a subject matter expert on professional competencies and influencing OSH management systems.

He holds a B.A. in Science from the University of Northern Iowa, a Master’s degree in Human Resource Development and a Doctorate degree in Adult and Lifelong Learning from the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Snyder currently heads a research-based consultancy advises OSH professionals about how to leverage influential safety leadership through experience, education, and examination. As the former owner of SPAN, he is a well-known and accomplished subject-matter expert on professional certification exam blueprints and OSH professional competencies.

Dr. Snyder is an accomplished professional speaker and published author, his works include the SPAN Exam study workbooks, the Ethics chapter in the American Society of Safety Professionals’ Consultants Business Development Guide (2015) and the National Safety Council’s Pocket Guide to Safety Essentials, 2nd Edition (2014).

He is dedicated to advancing the profession through consulting, coaching and mentoring services. He serves as committee chair for the ANSI/ASSP Z490.1 Criteria for Accepted Practices in EHS Training Standard. Dr. Snyder is a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the ISO Technical Committee (TC)-283 for the ISO 45001, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) standard.

Greetings fellow Society members, it is an honor and a privilege to be selected as a candidate to represent you as a Board Director-At-Large. With this servant leadership opportunity, my pledge to the membership is to advance the ASSP’s mission and vision by:

  1. Ensuring relevant OSH professional development opportunities and create value-added content that benefits the member, the society, the profession.
  2. Applying the best available technology to effectively deliver educational content through creative and adaptive learning methodologies.
  3. Create consensus through collaboration to advance research initiatives, thus advancing ASSP and our profession into the future.
  4. Working in an open and honest manner to learn and earn your trust as an ASSP Board Director at Large.  

Considering the rapid evolution and broad application of technologies across all industry sectors, the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) professional of the future will require that ASSP educational resources be innovative, technologically advanced, relevant, and highly focused on enhancing professional competencies.

In collaboration with all the councils, common interest groups,  practice specialties, and members, ASSP serves as our curator for the collective intelligence of our diverse professional body of knowledge, preserving the quality of our intellectual capital that pays forward perpetual dividends to our current and emerging professionals.

Along my 30-year professional journey, I have enjoyed the opportunity of working with many of you as CEO of SPAN delivering certification exam prep, mentoring thousands of safety professionals to successfully achieve certification.  My experience and global perspective will help further the Society’s strategic plan and achieve our goals.  Most important, I will focus on helping to provide ASSP pathways for your professional success.  Thank you for your consideration and participation in shaping the future of the profession.
