Biography

Melissa Schmaltz, MS, CSP has over 18 years of experience in the field of occupational safety and health, including:  manufacturing; state OSHA compliance; EHS consulting; and casualty insurance experience. Melissa’s presentation skills and technical knowledge allow her to reach a wide range of audiences. She has been recognized for several honors including the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Region II 2016-2017 “Safety Professional of the Year” award.  In 2009 Melissa earned the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation.  Melissa also holds a Bachelor of Science, Geology and Bachelor of Arts, Spanish from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Science, Environmental Technology Management form Arizona State University.

Platform Statement

During my time on the Region II Operating Committee, I have been honored to be able to learn what it means to be a leader from the current and outgoing Regional Vice President.  I would like to continue the positive, inclusive, and encouraging guidance shown by my predecessor, as well as forward our Society commitment to provide a connected, diverse, equitable, and inclusive community to put our passion to work.  This will be accomplished by continuing to improve communication, collaboration, and use of emerging technologies to better understand the wide range of perspectives and needs of our members, volunteers, and leaders.
