Jesse J. McCathron, began in the oilfield when he was 2 years old and his dad carried him onto his first drilling rig. It wasn’t until he was in college that he started his now 20 year career in oil/gas/mining however as he worked summers as a Floorhand throwing tongs and spinning chain. Jesse credits the safety profession for most current roughnecks not knowing how to perform either of those tasks anymore! After college, he was re-hired by Ensign Energy as an Engineer Trainee and worked on the rigs fulltime for a couple of years until he was brought in to the office as a Corporate Trainer and it was then that he realized his true passion; H.S.E. Jesse worked as a trainer for a few more years until he went back into the field to learn the workover/completions side of the business. After that he became the U.S. Divisional HSE Manager for that division. Six years ago, he received an opportunity to become the Corporate Director of HSE for The Wireline Group, a leading cased hole wireline company with locations across the U.S. Jesse joined ASSP many years ago at the recommendation of his Supervisor and has enjoyed the many benefits it has brought to his career, most notably the connections made. The past 3 years Jesse has been the Website and Jobs chair for the Colorado Chapter and the Awards and Nominations chair for the Oil/Gas/Mining Practice Specialty.
I am running for the Assistant Administrator for Oil/Gas/Mining for a very simple reason; to give back. Oil, Gas and Mining has been everything to me in my adult life. It has brought me friends, mentors, a roof over my head, and food on the table. Even during the challenging past few years, it has been an honor to see how the amazing people in our industry have chosen to still revolutionize the safety profession and improve what we do day in and day out. ASSP in particular has an amazing platform to reach the people and give knowledge and support whenever it is needed.
As Assistant Administrator, my vision is to concentrate on building value through communication by expanding our community page into a true reference area for people looking to us for those answers. Regulatory changes across the country are happening at a faster pace and it will be crucial to stay on top of these and push that information out to our members in an equally timely manner. I also look to show the biggest benefit I have seen by being a member of ASSP; networking. As I look across my career, many of my mentors have come from within ASSP. So I will look expand the networking opportunities within Oil/Gas/Mining so others can reap that same benefit. I believe accomplishing these objectives will give an outstanding benefit to those in our membership and will continue the growth of our Practice Specialty.
It is an honor to be a candidate to run for Assistant Administrator for the Oil, Gas, and Mining Specialty and if elected I promise to give the same 24/7 commitment that I give to my employees. Thank you for your time and I look forward to talking to you all in the future!
