It’s early July as I write my first Administrator’s Message, and it’s feeling every bit like summer even here in usually cool Vermont.
I’m excited to begin serving as Management Practice Specialty Administrator and working with our dedicated volunteer Advisory Committee, meeting and exceeding your expectations, growing membership, and providing solutions for what keeps you up at night.
One current challenge is how will we integrate ISO 45001 into our scope of practice. Another is the continued globalization of many of our businesses and how to recognize and mitigate the safety and health risks in all parts of the world. These risks are not only the hazards people face in the workplace, but also include dangerous roads, violence, environmental concerns and barriers to a healthy lifestyle. With your help to refine the focus areas, the Management Practice Specialty can continue to promote safety culture, safety leadership and safety management and help you help the people you serve. Please be sure to check out our new web page.
I also encourage you to share your expertise with others in our profession. Everyone has something to offer and we can all learn from one another. ASSP's call for presenters is open for the 2019 annual conference, slated for June 9-12, in New Orleans, LA. Like other member communities, the Management Practice Specialty is interested in sponsoring sessions relevant to our mission. If you are interested in having our group sponsor your session, please follow the session sponsorship instructions and submit it to us by July 13.
Other ways to share your knowledge include writing technical articles, speaking on webinars or open calls, mentoring another member or joining our Advisory Committee. One of my goals is for each team within our practice specialty to have at least one committee member or committee co-chair. Please let me know if you would like to get involved, or contact a committee member in your area of interest directly. Also, we can all engage in our LinkedIn group and ASSP will soon launch a new communities online platform to help us stay connected. More to come on that in future communications.
My first message would not be complete without expressing my deepest appreciation for all the volunteers who have given their time and talents in service to the Management Practice Specialty and the Advisory Committee over the past year or more. In particular, I’d like to recognize past administrator Anita Muller for her leadership and commitment
Wishing everyone a safe summer.
