William Hocevar Receives Lifetime Achievement in Safety Award

Apr 01, 2019

EHS Daily Advisor Safety Standout Awards recognize companies and safety professionals who make their workplaces safe. ASSP member William Hocevar, M.S., CSP, CIH, was recognized with BLR’s Lifetime Achievement in Safety Award. The award recognizes individuals who have at least 10 years’ experience in the safety field and have demonstrated leadership abilities and a strong commitment to safety. Hocevar also accepted an award on behalf of his company, Great Lakes Construction Co., for Best Overall Safety Program.

“It is truly an honor to achieve the Lifetime Achievement Award,” says Hocevar. “It was no one job that has helped me achieve this award, rather a compilation of various heavy civil projects in transportation/infrastructure, heavy industrial, public works, energy and environmental remediation. Exposure to these projects as well as to the individuals I have met through various associations has allowed me to grow professionally. Receiving this award is confirmation that giving back to our profession does not go unnoticed, and that together we can make a difference.”

Hocevar is director of risk and compliance at Great Lakes Construction Co. He serves as an instructor at Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation and as an adjunct professor at Lakeland Community College and Kent State, teaching construction safety, industrial hygiene and construction law. He is a professional member of ASSP’s Northern Ohio Chapter. Hocevar has chaired Ohio’s AGC Safety Committee, holds a board of directors’ seat for several safety associations, has been appointed to Ohio’s Underground Technical Committee and serves as chair of the Construction Safety Council Alliance.
