Jan 01, 2020

SU_RekusFJohn Rekus, M.S., P.E., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for his contributions to the field of safety engineering. A professional member of our Chesapeake Chapter, Rekus is recognized for his contributions to public policy development, staff mentoring and educational outreach during his more than 40 years in the professional world.

Rekus retired in 2014 from his position as senior safety engineer at National Security Agency, where he helped develop a nationally recognized safety management system. He also authored The Complete Confined Spaces Handbook, which highlights the hazards and controls associated with employee entry into confined spaces.

Congratulations to John Rekus! This is well deserved recognition. I worked with John while setting up a confined space entry system for a major MD heavy industry with numerous and varied types of confined spaces, many of which had very serious hazards if not properly controlled. He reviewed our proposed system, offered a few tweaks and pronounced it thorough, effective and workable. In the eyes of our wary union safety committee, his experience, working knowledge of confined spaces, communication style and overall professional demeanor brought great credibility and acceptance to our system, and it functioned well in practice.  L. Harvey Kirk, CSP
