ASTM International’s pedestrian/walkway safety and footwear committee has honored ASSP member Wayne Maynard, CSP, CPE, ALCM, with its Charles H. Irvine Memorial Award. Maynard is recognized for his exceptional leadership and advocacy in pedestrian and walkway safety.
The award was established to aid in the development of standards to promote workplace safety, reduce pedestrian slip and fall incidents, advance the science of floor and shoe sole slipperiness, and better design stairways.
“It was an honor to receive this prestigious award from ASTM International,” says Maynard. “Charles Irvine spent much of his career at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety in Hopkinton, MA, and retired several years before I got there. We didn’t know each other very well but we both shared a passion for slips/falls prevention. I shall always cherish this award bearing his name.”
Maynard is the ergonomics and tribology product director, risk control technical services at Liberty Mutual Insurance in Massachusetts. During the past 25 years, he has served in various roles dedicated to research translation and product development. Maynard is a professional member of our Greater Boston Chapter.
