ASSP has published the new ANSI/ASSP A10.5, Safety Requirements for Material Hoists standard; the revised ANSI/ASSP Z244.1-2016 (R2020), Control of Hazardous Energy Lockout, Tagout and Alternative Methods; and a technical report, ASSP TR-31010, Risk Management.
- ANSI/ASSP A10.5-2020, Safety Requirements for Material Hoists, applies to material hoists used to raise or lower materials during construction, alteration, maintenance or demolition. The standard sets forth minimum requirements intended to provide for the safety of life, limb and property of those engaged in occupations requiring the use of material hoists.
- ANSI/ASSP Z244.1-2016 (R2020), The Control of Hazardous Energy Lockout, Tagout and Alternative Methods, specifies the use of lockout (primary method), tagout or alternative methods to control hazardous energy associated with machines, equipment or processes that could cause harm to personnel. The standard applies to activities such as installing, constructing, repairing, inspecting, unjamming, cleaning, dismantling, servicing and maintaining machines, equipment or processes.
- ASSP TR-31010, Risk Management—Techniques for Safety Professionals, is a technical report that provides guidance on the selection and application of techniques for assessing and managing risk that can be applied to a range of occupational settings, situations and operational stages as part of the risk management process. The technical report is intended to help decision makers gain an understanding of risk, reduce related uncertainty and obtain risk-based information that will enable the organization to achieve its objectives.
