New Standards & Guidance Published

ASSP has published the new ANSI/ASSP A10.5, Safety Requirements for Material Hoists standard; the revised ANSI/ASSP Z244.1-2016 (R2020), Control of Hazardous Energy Lockout, Tagout and Alternative Methods; and a technical report, ASSP TR-31010, Risk Management.

  • ANSI/ASSP A10.5-2020, Safety Requirements for Material Hoists, applies to material hoists used to raise or lower materials during construction, alteration, maintenance or demolition. The standard sets forth minimum requirements intended to provide for the safety of life, limb and property of those engaged in occupations requiring the use of material hoists.
  • ASSP TR-31010, Risk Management—Techniques for Safety Professionals, is a technical report that provides guidance on the selection and application of techniques for assessing and managing risk that can be applied to a range of occupational settings, situations and operational stages as part of the risk management process. The technical report is intended to help decision makers gain an understanding of risk, reduce related uncertainty and obtain risk-based information that will enable the organization to achieve its objectives.
