I started my safety career 20 years ago as a professional firefighter. My journey has taken me through several companies, volunteer organizations and several professional positions. Currently, I’m the Corporate Safety Director of the Environmental, Remediation and Consulting Division with Montrose Environmental. I work with a diverse team of professionals to provide health and safety programs and oversight for environmental remediation projects aimed at cleaning up toxic chemicals from the soil, water, and air. I am also an associate professor of Fire Science at Valencia College School of Public Safety where I have been teaching the principles of fire and life safety since 2011.
Most important to me is my family. I have been married to my partner in crime and best friend, Angie for 18 years and we are courageously attempting to raise our three children, 12, 9, and 6 without causing too much damage to them or ourselves. We also care for an aging feline named Maddie and two guinea pigs, Patches and Penny.
I am a fitness enthusiast and enjoy paddleboarding and surfing when I can out on the water.
I am a graduate of the University of Wyoming and have a master’s degree in Emergency Management and Fire Science from Oklahoma State University. (Yes, they are both the Cowboys)
As the Region IV Area Vice President, I bring both my professional and membership experience to the job. I have served as the Vice President and President of the Central Florida Chapter and have had the pleasure of leading and learning from the very best volunteers the ASSP has to offer. My goals are simple, to help advance the safety profession and leave it in a better place than I found it, to create meaningful and high-quality member experiences and to help ASSP grow.
To accomplish these goals, we will implement a strategic plan that outlines the steps to achievement and provides a touchstone for assessing progress. We will evaluate our communication efforts with Area Directors and Chapter Presidents and see if there are ways to improve. We will visit with local chapters and provide support for their events and programs. In addition, we will ensure that chapter officers understand their roles and responsibilities within the ASSP and how this is vital to the long-term success of the organization.
In addition, to increase participation, we must elevate the programming that we offer our membership. I plan to work with chapter leaders to find new and exciting programming that is diverse and appealing to a broader spectrum of our membership.
I am an accomplished leader who is proactive and dedicated to our collective cause. I will give my full attention to those in need and work until we have solutions to the problems we face. I look forward to the future and seeing the organization that we create together.
