Who We Are

ASSP’s Management Practice Specialty member community is geared toward ASSP members who are focused on OSH management or supervision, safety program oversight, and safety culture and leadership issues. We provide a forum for safety managers and supervisors to network, and also offer management-related content and education to advance your knowledge and skills.

What We Do

For ASSP members within the Management Practice Specialty, we provide the following:

  • Networking opportunities via social media groups, conference calls and in-person meetings like the annual Professional Development Conference so you can connect with top industry professionals

Practice Specialty Recognition

  • Professional development opportunities, including safety management education you can immediately put into practice, mentor relationships that facilitate sharing knowledge, and volunteer and leadership opportunities to build your skills and enhance your resume
  • Safety-related, management-focused content and information that you can also immediately implement, as well as share with employers and colleagues, to create safe, productive work environments

Why It Matters

We cater to those already in or seeking safety management and supervisory roles, not only to share best practices for implementing and overseeing safety management systems, but also to offer resources on how to make the business case for safety to your employer. We aspire to earn safety professionals a seat at the decision-making table among other business leaders so we truly can make the world a safer and healthier place.

Management Practice Specialty Mentor Program

Through our mentoring program, we connect experienced safety managers with those professionals who are new to safety management positions or who aspire to obtain such positions. Our goal is to encourage and empower mentees to more effectively advance their careers through alignment with identified business objectives, skill development, career considerations and networking. Mentor and mentee applicants must be members of ASSP and the Management Practice Specialty.

Leadership Opportunities

Go beyond belonging to the Management Practice Specialty community and volunteer for a position on our Advisory Committee. Or, consider running to be elected as assistant administrator, which, after two years, leads to the office of administrator. As a volunteer leader, you can lend your time and expertise to our many initiatives, while developing transferable leadership and team-building skills. Leadership positions within ASSP help members reach their highest level of performance — both on the job and in the Society.
