ASSP’s Ergonomics Practice Specialty member community is the premier resource for ASSP members looking for technical knowledge and expertise related to workplace safety and ergonomics, the science of fitting workplace conditions and job demands to the capabilities of the working population. Workplace safety and ergonomics also encompasses issues such as work-related musculoskeletal disorders. We provide a forum for you to network and share best practices relating to ergonomics.

What We Do

For ASSP members within the Ergonomics Practice Specialty, we provide the following:

  • Networking opportunities via social media groups, conference calls and in-person meetings like the annual Professional Development Conference so you can connect with top industry professionals
  • Professional development opportunities, including ergonomics-focused education that you can immediately put into practice, mentor relationships that facilitate sharing knowledge and volunteer and leadership opportunities to build your skills and enhance your resume
  • Safety-related, ergonomics-focused content and information that you can also immediately put into practice, share with employers and colleagues and use to create safe, productive work environments

Why It Matters

Occupational health hazards like repetitive motion, poor lighting, vibration and noise are just a few of the ergonomics-related issues that lead to injuries and illnesses in the workplace. Our members share their real-world guidance and experience to help one another develop or improve ergonomics and work physiology programs for their organizations, and to effectively reduce ergonomic-related injuries in the workplace.

    Salary survey pinpoints value of certifications for safety and health professionals

    ASSE and BCSP conducted a 33-question salary survey in March of nearly 10,000 safety, health and environmental professionals based primarily in the United States and Canada, identifying the typical salary, benefits, credentials and experience of these individuals. The median base salary for full-time professionals was $97,000.

Go beyond belonging to the Ergonomics Practice Specialty and volunteer for a position on our advisory committee. Alternatively, consider running to be elected as assistant administrator, which leads to occupying the office of administrator after two years. As a volunteer leader, you can lend your time and expertise to our many initiatives, while developing transferable leadership and team-building skills. Leadership positions within ASSP help members reach their highest level of performance, both on the job and in the Society.
