I was educated at Indiana University of Pennsylvania receiving a BS in Management in 1989 and an MS in Safety Sciences in 1996.  In my current job of 20 years 4 months with the Architect of the Capitol I have served as the agency’s Safety Engineer.  I spearheaded the fall protection efforts for facilities controlled by the Architect of the Capitol across Capitol Hill.  I also developed the agency’s Prevention Through Design and Contractor Safety Oversight policies.  Current responsibilities include policy and program management, as well as design review for various demolition, construction, and renovation projects on Capitol Hill including the Capitol Dome Rehabilitation.  I received my CSP in 2005. In addition, I have twice served as Administrator of the advisory committee for the Engineering Practice Specialty, overseeing the practice specialty for the EPS, and sitting as the Awards and Honors Chair for over a decade.  Currently, I serve on the Leadership Conference Planning Committee.  I have served previously as Chair of the CoPS Awards & Honors Committee and have worked closely with CoPS members to update awards forms and the self-evaluation matrix. In 2011 I was appointed to the ASSP Technical Publications Committee and received three EPS SPY awards.  I have also served on the ASSP Membership Development Committee and ASSP work groups to update the SOG regarding awards and honors.  Finally, I have spoken at the ASSP PDC 10 times regrading fall protection, Prevention Through Design, and safety in historic buildings.

Platform Statement

As the Vice-President, Practices and Standards I will continue to work closely with the advisory committee members of our ASSP practice specialties and common interest groups. While serving as the CoPS Awards and Honors Chair, I found the need for some means to assist Practice Specialties (PS) and Common Interest Groups (CIG). In this new role I will work with this committee to develop timelines and schedules for PS and CIG Awards and Honors Chairs as well as short training on filling award applications. I will also work with PS/CIG Administrators to encourage mentoring and educating Emerging Professionals in Occupational Safety and Health. Emerging Professionals are the future of safety, and they have many options open to them. ASSP Communities are filled with experienced professionals who can introduce new Safety Professionals to the many opportunities awaiting them and mentor them in their careers. In addition, PS/CIG members can provide webinars to teach young professionals about things we face every day such as fire protection, electrical safety, and engineering. I will work with Emerging Professionals in Occupational Safety and Health to encourage them to become involved and to broaden their expertise and give their input to new standards that will affect safety in years to come. I will work to bring ASSP’s Emerging Professionals to the forefront and energize the PS and CIG memberships to become involved with them. I will work with PS/CIG groups that don’t have active memberships to energize their members and make them more active in ASSP and OSH, and complete previous CoPS priorities. I will work to improve DEI in CoPS and assure everyone has the same opportunities for participation.  Finally, I will work with the new ASSP Governance Advisory Committee to assure that the voices of PS/CIG members are heard.
