Biography

I am passionate about the stewardship of the OSH profession and have acted on this through participation in volunteer activities directly supporting fellow practitioners, enabling the advancement of the field. In August 2023, I received ASSP’s Charles V. Culbertson Outstanding Volunteer Service Award in recognition of my work with the Government Affairs Committee. I am the immediate past Regional Vice President for ASSP Region VII, and continue to serve as Chair of the Government Affairs Committee.

My volunteer work for ASSP in more than 30 years as a member includes a full range of chapter officer positions. I have also served as deputy regional vice president, Council on Professional Affairs member and Professional Safety Journal contributor, as well as as a long-standing member of ASSP’s Executive Safety Forum.

I am a highly experienced EHS practitioner with extensive work in the process industries (chemical, metals and glass), manufacturing operations (automotive, aerospace and electronics) and industrial services (occupational medicine, injury prevention, ergonomics and EHS). I have consistently driven EHS excellence in the protection of people, planet and profitability for the globally recognized organizations I have served. I attended Marshall University, earning a B.B.A with emphasis in economics and finance, an M.S. in Safety Technology and and M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I am a published author and a leading voice in the advancement of the occupational safety and health field.

Platform Statement

Like many professions in these dynamic times, the future of ours is uncertain. Leadership is needed more now than ever to ensure we have a future as a vibrant and highly respected profession for the diverse range of currently practicing and emerging professionals in our field, along with the people and organizations we serve.

If elected, I will be your advocate for:

  1. Meeting member expectations regarding community and traditions. I will connect with the widest range of members to gather their thoughts on how ASSP can serve them better. I will seek to create an inclusive environment across the diverse range of members, then bring their ideas and perspectives to the Board for discussion to foster the best decision-making outcomes.
  2. Championing the strategic needs of the profession. I will use the knowledge and perspectives gained from my 30-plus years as a working EHS practitioner and ASSP member to assist the Board of Directors in making the best oversight decisions, resulting in successful programs and resources for our membership.
  3. Driving development of new resources and programs for members. I will promote original ideas to my fellow board members to facilitate the implementation of innovative solutions for challenges facing ASSP members and the ASSP organization. This would include a heavy focus on new programs and services, meeting the needs of both current and future OSH professionals.

My 30-plus years of involvement in ASSP and work in the field make me mindful of the valued traditions and customs of ASSP as a member organization. I am excited to use this experience to carry the meaningful member-focused elements of our organization into the future. By working together, we can achieve the impactful, successful, and sustainable future we will be proud to pass on.
