Daniel Ashworth, PhD, CSP, CFPS

Biography

Daniel Ashworth, PhD, CSP, CFPS is an EH&S professional with more than 15 years of fire protection, safety, and emergency management experience. More importantly, he is a husband and father to two wonderful children: an eleven-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter. Daniel’s career has primarily been in the nuclear industry with a focus on the high risk, high reliability.  As the Manager of Licensing & Safety Analysis for BWX Technologies, Inc., Daniel leads a group of multi-discipline professional and technical employees that are responsible for all aspects in which the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission provides oversight and support Chemical Safety, Fire Protection, Radiation Safety, and Emergency Preparedness Programs.

Prior to his work with BWXT, Daniel worked in the Healthcare Industry and Nuclear Industry. As a Sr. Life Safety Consultant for Smith Seckman Reid, Inc., Daniel was responsible for project management and leading teams performing Life Safety, Environment of Care, and Emergency Management audits of Healthcare and Ambulatory Care Facilities. As a Fire Protection Engineer for Nuclear Safety Associates, Inc. and Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc., his duties included performing Fire Hazard Analysis, supporting the development of process hazard analysis reports, and conducting field design verification, hazard analysis walk downs, and audit assessments. Daniel earned a B.S. in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology and a M.S. in Safety, Security, and Emergency Management from Eastern Kentucky University.  Daniel also completed a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Safety Sciences at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Platform Statement

As the Regional Vice President, I not only bring my professional and membership experience, I also bring five years of experience in Chapter Leadership and six years of experience as a Regional Officer, including Northern Area Director. My goal is to assist the Region and its Chapters in exemplifying Member engagement in a proactive way that adds value not only to the members but also to their community. I want to help in reinforcing our commitment to the education of the profession and mentoring the current and future generation of EH&S professionals. I will strive to provide leadership and guidance in a manner that makes a positive difference in our memberships’ live, careers, and community.

As the Regional Vice President, I would make it a high priority in continuing the growth of providing trainings and educational opportunities to the entire Region. I would like to not only encourage the participation in monthly Local Chapter meetings but also like to see the participation, collaboration, and knowledge exchange of our professionals within our Region through consistent webinars – available to all members of the 14 chapters comprising Region VI.
