My name is James Woodward Sr. and I would be honored to serve as Region VI Area Director- North of the American Society of Safety Professionals. Over the course of the last eight years, I have had the pleasure of serving in the roles of secretary, 2nd Vice President, and 1st Vice President of the Chesapeake Chapter. I am currently serving my second term as chapter President. I have progressed through my various roles, on the executive committee, with incredible guidance from tenured chapter leaders who have shown me the true value of ASSP and demonstrated the skills necessary to lead a platinum status chapter.
The Chesapeake Chapter is one of the most active chapters within the society. We have monthly chapter meetings in hybrid, virtual, and in-person formats. The topics of our monthly meetings include technical speakers as well as social and networking events. In addition, we collaborate with the local chapter of AIHA for a one-day professional development conference.
In my various roles, within the Chesapeake Chapter, I have collaborated with other EC members to improve member value. In doing so, we have been successful in improving chapter meetings, increasing membership, networking with other professional organizations, growing our professional development conference, and increasing opportunities for members to get involved.
In the EHS world, safety professionals are expected to provide value to their organizations and their members and the same holds true for the leaders of ASSP. I believe that the guidance provided to me by my ASSP mentors has prepared me to successfully lead the Chesapeake Chapter and I am prepared to take that knowledge and experience into this important leadership role at the regional level.
