Jillian Nicholson is an experienced Athletic Trainer and Associate Ergonomics Professional with over 13 years of service in industrial health and safety. Her work is grounded in a holistic approach to worker well-being, integrating physical, organizational, and psychosocial factors to reduce injury risk and promote overall wellness. Jillian has a long history working in the healthcare industry from physical medicine to orthopedics. She has an extensive non-profit leadership background including work as an executive director and held various board member positions and volunteer roles. In 2022, Jillian founded Up North Injury Prevention & Ergonomics LLC, a consultancy and industrial rehab service provider dedicated to delivering comprehensive, client-specific solutions. Her practice emphasizes a whole person perspective—addressing the full spectrum of influences on employee health, from biomechanics and job design to workplace culture and lifestyle factors. Jillian is known for her ability to assess musculoskeletal injuries and provide quality care in addition the ability to evaluate and provide recommendations to eliminate the risk that lead to the injury in the first place. Outside of work, Jillian is a proud mother of three—two grown sons and a teenage daughter who is passionate about hockey. Much of her family’s time is spent at the rink or enjoying the outdoors. She and her husband especially value time on the lake and in nature.
With a strong background in industrial medicine and ergonomics, as well as years of involvement in non-profits I would like to use my knowledge to support the ergo practice specialty group in meeting their administrative needs. If selected, I will bring a whole-person perspective to this role—ensuring that we consider all aspects of a task and support whatever projects in a way that best supports our members. I have made some of my most valued connections through ASSP and want to support this group to continue to help others foster relationships, share knowledge and network. In 2022, I started my own business offering a variety of onsite injury prevention services as an Athletic Trainer as well as providing ergonomic assessments and working with various organizations to improve both physical ergonomics as well as psychosocial and wellness components of their employees. Business ownership isn't new to me, having grown up in a family run business and my husband owning his own business as a distributor for many years. I have over 13 years of industrial healthcare work history but have also spent time in the non-profit world. I spent time as an executive director, board member, registrar and coach in various non-profits. I am honored to be considered for this administrative volunteer role and am eager to contribute my leadership, experience, and commitment to advancing the mission of the Ergonomic Practice Specialty group.
