Platform Statement

My name is Angel Romero, and I am respectfully running for the role of Assistant Administrator for the Hispanic Safety Professional (HSP) interest group. Throughout my tenure with ASSP, I have held various positions within our chapter and have gained invaluable experience. During this period, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet many remarkable individuals at different levels of their safety careers. I began my career as an EH&S Professional in 2000. During this time, I worked in industries such as manufacturing, staffing, and hospitality. In 2008, I served as a Risk Consultant, managing a portfolio of approximately 250 clients. By 2013, I discovered my niche when I started working directly in construction and developed a passion for the industry. In construction, I focused on Power Transmission and Distribution (high voltage) and Underground Utilities (wet and dry). I was responsible for ensuring safety compliance on large telecom, gas, and civil utility infrastructure construction projects in the West Region. My duties included preparing and conducting field operations and craft worker safety training and orientations, assisting field operations and subcontractors with the implementation of site-specific safety plans, fostering a proactive safety culture, performing field safety audits, conducting hazard assessments, and overseeing the administration and compliance of all safety rules and regulations. In 2022, I had the incredible opportunity to join the elevator industry. I am currently employed at Schindler Elevator Corporation as the EH&S Manager for the West Region, where I am dedicated to enhancing operational outcomes and company culture through a strategic approach to human operational performance (HOP) by identifying risk scenarios inherent in company processes, thereby contributing to the safety of employees, third-party partners, visitors, and the general public.
