The Applied AI for EHS Certificate equips safety professionals to confidently and responsibly use artificial intelligence (AI) in workplace safety operations. As a foundational program, it builds essential AI knowledge while providing hands-on experience in evaluating technologies, identifying meaningful opportunities within existing safety systems, and applying AI to improve efficiency, strengthen risk management, and support better decision-making.

You will also learn how to design effective governance safeguards, establish human oversight and lead AI adoption with greater confidence in increasingly AI-enabled work environments. Offered in partnership with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), this certificate program helps safety professionals develop practical skills, sound judgment and credibility in applying AI.

Dr. Marla Corson and Nia Jetter lead the program through a unique partnership that blends executive safety leadership, operational experience, and deep expertise in AI and intelligent systems. Together, they have driven large-scale safety improvements in industry and now teach AI and Safety at UAB, helping safety professionals apply AI responsibly and collaborate effectively to achieve sustainable impact.

The Applied AI for EHS Certificate equips safety, health, risk and operations professionals with practical skills to evaluate, apply and lead responsible AI in the workplace, including AI literacy, safety data intelligence, operational integration and governance.

How to Earn Your Certificate

Step 1: Enroll in Our Applied AI for EHS Certificate Program.

There is no fee to register for the program. However, there is a separate registration process and fee for the required course. Once you are enrolled, please continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Register for and complete the required course within two years.

You will be directed to UAB’s registration page. Registration fees will be displayed in their store:

Step 3: Retrieve your certificate and receive your digital badge!

Upon completion of the required course, ASSP will post your certificate within 24-48 hours in your profile at www.assp.org, (Log-in, go to My Account, My Programs). Download the certificate and display it to recognize your career achievement!

You will also receive a digital badge through our partner, Credly, which you can easily share on LinkedIn and other platforms to showcase your achievement!
