Tara Diesbourg, PhD, CPE is an Associate Professor of Environmental Health & Safety at Oakland University and owner of TNT Ergonomics Solutions Inc. Her work focuses on bringing ergonomics to life—both in the classroom and in practice—by connecting research to real-world solutions that improve worker health, safety, and performance. Dr. Diesbourg founded the OU EHS Mentoring Program, which pairs students with industry professionals, and created the OU Ergonomics Consulting Program, where graduate students deliver ergonomics assessments for Oakland University faculty and staff. These initiatives give students hands-on experience while directly benefiting the community. Her research and consulting span participatory ergonomics, Total Worker Health, and innovative approaches to safety training. With a passion for providing ergonomics education to help individuals address their own inherent injury risks, she has published and presented widely, with a focus on projects that are practical, inclusive, and impactful for both workers and organizations. Dr. Diesbourg contributes to ASSP, HFES, and the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics. She values building meaningful connections and fostering collaboration across disciplines, always with the goal of making work safer, healthier, and more fulfilling. Above all, she is motivated by the belief that “work shouldn’t hurt” and is dedicated to promoting human factors and ergonomics, and empowering others to create safer, healthier workplaces.
I have a strong background in planning and coordinating engaging professional development events, from technical programs that highlight innovative applications of ergonomics to social gatherings that foster meaningful connections among members. I also value mentoring and developing future professionals, having created programs that connect students with industry leaders and provide hands-on ergonomics consulting experience. To this role, I would bring energy, creativity, and a collaborative approach. My focus will be on delivering relevant, high-quality content, encouraging active member engagement, and helping build a strong community that advances ergonomics within the safety profession.
