Boretti recognized for visionary leadership in environmental health and safety
PARK RIDGE, Illinois, May 7, 2026 — The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) today announced it has bestowed its highest honor — the Society’s Fellow distinction — on James Boretti, CSP, FASSP, CEO of Boretti, Inc. Boretti joins a distinguished group of only 154 Fellows named since ASSP’s founding in 1911.
A visionary leader in environmental health and safety (EHS), Boretti has spent more than 40 years bridging the gap between research and practical application in the safety profession. His work has helped elevate safety beyond compliance, enabling more operationally resilient and forward-thinking organizations. Throughout this career, he has supported organizations across agriculture, construction, healthcare and manufacturing in anticipating change, managing risk and helping ensure every worker returns home safely.
An active ASSP member for nearly four decades, Boretti has delivered more than 100 presentations at ASSP events and chapter meetings on topics such as corporate safety management, ethics, safety culture and sustainability. He has also served on several ASSP committees, including the Finance Committee, Governmental Affairs Committee, and Technical and Professional Recognition Committee.
“I congratulate James on this outstanding lifetime achievement and thank him for his many contributions to advancing the safety profession,” says Linda Tapp, CSP, ALCM, CPTD, president, ASSP. “Few are more deserving of this highest honor. Throughout his career, James has worked collaboratively to identify and mitigate risk, protect workers and elevate the profession worldwide. His leadership, expertise and mentorship have made a lasting impact.”
Beyond his work with ASSP, Boretti leads numerous pro bono initiatives aimed at making safety knowledge and resources more accessible to all.
The Fellow distinction recognizes a member’s lifetime commitment, achievement and leadership in preventing workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities. Nominees must demonstrate a history of significant contributions to the profession spanning at least 15 years. Boretti will be honored at ASSP’s Safety 2026 conference on June 14 in Anaheim, California. To learn more about the Fellow distinction, visit the ASSP website.
