The Emerging Professional Award recognizes the next generation of safety professionals who demonstrate leadership and a drive to grow professionally.

Benefits of the Emerging Professional Award

Recipients of our Emerging Professional Award will participate in a year-long professional development program. This includes being matched with a mentor with significant leadership experience, an invitation to the annual Leadership Conference and Leadership Development Experience in October, complimentary registration for our annual Professional Development Conference and an opportunity to engage with our Board of Directors at networking events. This program aims to help emerging professionals develop into leaders in the occupational safety and health (OSH) profession.

Nominee Requirements

To be a nominee for this award, you must:

  • Be an ASSP member
  • Be nominated by a supervisor or an ASSP member
  • Be under age 40 or have fewer than five years of experience in the OSH profession
  • Provide a letter of reference

Application Requirements

To apply, you need to create a five-page application package that consists of the following components:

  • Nomination form
  • Qualification statement
  • Resume citing education, professional development and certifications
  • Reference letter
  • Employer endorsement

Submission Process

  • Submit your application as a PDF by January 31 to The External Affairs Staff
  • ASSP’s Technical and Professional Recognition Committee will review all applications
