What Is the Award for Innovation
in Occupational Safety Management

29244150_1595545357150045_3345163749827805184_nThe Award for Innovation in Occupational Safety Management is presented to safety professionals who have developed and instituted safety programs or tools within their respective workplaces, and also garnered tremendous results from their innovations. Innovations recognized include:

  • Machine safety apps and software
  • All-encompassing fleet safety programs
  • International risk control guidance for use of energetic materials

Honoree Benefits

Recipients are recognized at ASSP’s annual Professional Development Conference. The recipient receives a plaque and a $3,000 cash prize. Up to five individuals can receive honorable mention recognition, which includes a cash prize of $500. Recipients are recognized in our publications, which can lead to wider recognition within the safety industry and your organization.

Nominee Requirements

Judges are appointed in accordance with procedures approved by ASSP’s Board of Directors. The judges evaluate applications based on several factors:

  • The range of application of the innovation in managing safety (20%)
  • Management benefits of the innovation (40%)
  • Safety benefit(s) attributable to the innovation (40%)

Innovative applications derived from other sources, such as a management theory or practice, are eligible for consideration as well. Please cite the source and explain how use of the source is innovative. If an application/software developer is involved with the project, cite the name of that organization or person and explain their role.

Submission Process

Deadline: Changes Each Year

All applications must be submitted online. Please submit no more than two applications. Complete a separate online application for each submission. Applications must be complete and represent your work. 

A complete application consists of four parts:

  1. Application form
  2. Description of the innovation
  3. Biographical information
  4. Reference information

Except where noted, we do not require a specific minimum length. However, in general, your online application materials should not exceed 20 pages.
