Biography

My name is Joseph Kapp, M.S., CIH, CSP. I am from Northern New Jersey. I attended Rutgers University, University College in New Brunswick, NJ and achieved my Bachelor of degree in Geography, Urban Planning in 1989. I also achieved a Master of Science in Environmental and Occupational Health Science from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 1994. While attending graduate school I worked throughout the New York City metropolitan region as an entry level industrial hygienist in environmental consulting performing asbestos air monitoring, lead paint XRF investigations, indoor air quality assessments, Phase I and II environmental investigations and related tasks. Soon after graduating with my MS degree, I embarked on a career as a loss control professional in the commercial insurance industry. My expertise in asbestos and lead abatement was valuable to support an underwriting division specializing in general liability for the abatement industry. The insurance industry is where I began my work toward certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist, CIH. I worked for several insurance companies over the course of approximately 20 years achieving my CIH in 2005 and becoming the lead Corporate Industrial Hygienist of a large commercial insurance company in Pennsylvania. In 2017, I moved into the consulting industry and currently work for a world class engineering consulting firm in New York City. In 2023 I achieved my credential of Certified Safety Professional, CSP which is a highlight of my career.
