Ethics in OSH Education

Jul 20, 2021

In this webinar recorded, April 15, 2020, Jan K. Wachter, professor in the Safety Sciences Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, explains the basics of ethics within the OSH profession. He discusses ethics as a necessary area of study for the OSH professional, and how to educate OSH students and professionals on ethics. He explores the use of varying situational context and student participation for understanding and applying various approaches to professional ethical decision-making. We compares the field of ethics with morality, law and science, and explore the need to educate students on the roles of intent, emotion, personal biases, justification, codes of professional conduct and professional associations on ethical decision-making. He also assesses how to structure an ethics course within the curriculum.
