COVID-19 has changed the ways that ASSP members communicate, meet and focus on safety. However, some members are finding new and innovative ways to connect with other OSH professionals.
ASSP member Mark Hank recently posted a message in the ASSP Community to see if other OSH professionals might be interested in joining a virtual book club where members would read and share ideas about safety-related books.
"I am relatively new to my ASSP chapter, having moved to the area a year ago. So, I was looking for ways to connect with others in my area and was originally thinking of contacting my chapter president and seeing if we could organize a book club locally,” Hank says. “In thinking about COVID, I then thought that any gathering would be virtual, at least to start. I thought that I'd just put out a message and see what interest I could muster up."
The post in the ASSP Community asked anyone who was interested in the virtual book club to send an email to Hank. The group plans to meet for the first time on March 23, 2021, to discuss the book Safety Walk Safety Talk: How Small Changes in What You Think, Say and Do Shape Your Safety Culture, by David Allan Galloway.
Those interested in joining the virtual book club can contact Mark Hank through the ASSP Community. To find virtual events held by your fellow members, visit the ASSP Community.
