ASSP Certificate Programs Help Safety Professionals Advance

Jul 14, 2020

PARK RIDGE, IL — The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), a global leader in occupational safety and health education and training, has repackaged its professional certificate programs that are designed to help workplace safety and health professionals become experts in their field. Each program includes a set of courses that safety professionals can complete in-person or through ASSP’s live virtual classroom.

The three programs enable safety professionals to earn certificates that demonstrate their expertise in safety management, leadership in safety management, and global safety management. Participants also earn continuing education units (CEUs) to help maintain their professional certifications. Like all ASSP professional development opportunities, these programs cover industry best practices and deliver relevant safety education that attendees can immediately implement in their organizations.

“The certificate programs give safety professionals a competitive advantage at their workplace and in their industry,” said ASSP President Deborah Roy, M.P.H., RN, COHN-S, CSP, CIT, FASSP, FAAOHN. “It helps them establish credibility as a safety leader and become an indispensable asset in their organization.”

Here are more details on each of ASSP’s professional certificate programs:

▪  Safety Management Certificate (5.6 CEUs) – This program helps workplace safety professionals learn the fundamental concepts and processes for implementing proven approaches to safety management. It is ideal for professionals with fewer than three years of experience or seasoned professionals who have recently taken on more safety management responsibilities. The coursework spans a wide range of topics – from leadership skills and ethics to developing budgets and controlling workers’ compensation costs. Attendees will also learn to design and adjust safety management systems to best meet the needs of employees and the organization.

▪  Leadership in Safety Management Certificate (3.5 CEUs) – This program is a natural extension of ASSP’s Safety Management Certificate. Attendees learn to apply contemporary safety management methods and use influential leadership strategies to achieve the highest levels of performance. The certificate is ideal for professionals with more than five years of experience who seek a higher level of organizational leadership in safety management.

▪  Global Safety Management Certificate (2.8 CEUs) – This program helps professionals develop skills and knowledge to establish and maintain safe workplaces anywhere in the world. Attendees learn to identify regulations, standards and legislation that pertain to occupational safety and health across multiple jurisdictions and countries. The certificate is ideal for professionals who aspire to advance into a global-level safety management role.

It is important to note that while earning an ASSP professional certificate demonstrates mastery of key occupational safety and health topics or leadership skills, it is different than earning a professional designation. ASSP can help safety professionals achieve that career objective through certification exam preparation courses.
