Protect Your Chapter From Spam: Use a Contact Form

Feb 04, 2022

ASSP chapter and regional websites are an ongoing target of spear-phishing attacks and spam mails. And it seems these scams become more sophisticated by day.

Spear-phishing messages and spam mails are targeted messages that appear to come from a trusted source, likely someone you (the target) know personally and often someone in a position of authority, like one of your leaders. The messages can put your information and finances at risk.

In a recent case, a member of a chapter’s executive committee received an official-looking e-mail from another executive committee member asking for a money transfer to pay a vendor. The signature in the message spoofed the leader's actual email address.

While ASSP takes steps to block these unwanted messages, we can't stop them all.

Contact us example webpage on ASSP chapter websiteTo help eliminate the issue, please consider removing email addresses from your website and adding a contact form instead. This form will allow your members and website visitors to connect with you in a hassle-free manner. The forms typically contain fields for name, email address and a text area for asking questions or sharing feedback. Your chapter can customize the form to collect the information you need and want. A contact form also provides users with a better level of security.
