ASSP Asks OSHA to Raise Awareness of Fall Protection Management Programs

ASSP recently sent a letter to OSHA asking the agency to more strongly emphasize the need for comprehensive fall protection management programs in industry. The Society notes that while fall protection is a specific topic within OSH management system standards such as ANSI/ASSP Z10 and ISO 45001, more must be done to improve fall protection management. 

Specifically, we asked OSHA to enhance its efforts in several ways:

• Address fall protection program management in the next national stand-down. 
• State that investment in fall protection program management is a worthwhile.
• Publish guidance recognizing the importance of fall protection program management and its benefits.
• Include fall protection program management on the OSHA Quick Card for Fall Protection in General Industry.
• Consider referencing ANSI/ASSP Z359.2, “Minimum Requirements for a Comprehensive Managed Fall Protection Program,” in OSHA 1926 and 1910.
• Include the Z359 and A10 standards on its fall protection topics page.
