The ANSI/ASSP A10.23 Safety Requirements for the Installation of Drilled Shafts standard establishes minimum safety requirements for employees who are exposed to hazards associated with the construction of drilled shafts for foundations and earth retention elements.

Richard Marshall, CHST
Richard Marshall, CHST, is director of safety for the International Association of Foundation Drilling, Irving, TX, providing a range of safety and health services to members of the association. He is vice-chair of the ANSI/ASSP A10.23 subgroup, chair of the ANSI/ASSP A10.9 subgroup and chair of the ANSI/ASSP A10.30 subgroup. Marshall has worked for more than 45 years in the deep foundation construction industry, the last 28 in the OSH field. An authorized OSHA Construction Outreach Instructor, Marshall holds a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health Engineering from Columbia Southern University.
