Our
Central Florida Chapter recently held its annual Holiday Awards Luncheon where Chapter President Susan Tobin presented members with awards and scholarships. Marcus Rasberry, a member of our
Women in Safety Excellence and
Blacks in Safety Excellence common interest groups as well as the
Risk Management/Insurance Practice Specialty, received the chapter’s Safety Professional of the Year Award for his dedication to the chapter and for sharing his knowledge and experience with chapter members.
Several chapter members also received annual scholarships and grants, including Duke Derdock (a member of the
Construction Practice Specialty) and Josh Densberger, who received grants to support their attendance at the Region IV professional development conference and Safety 2020 in Orlando, FL, respectively. Student member Matthew Larson received a scholarship to advance his studies at
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
The chapter also partnered with Georgia Tech to offer a machine guarding class through an
OSHA Susan Harwood Training Grant. While a similar class was already being offered in the region, many members found it difficult to attend due to the distant location. The course was delivered in Winter Park, FL, and hosted 40 participants, who learned about machine guarding, lockout/tagout, robotics, woodworking machine guarding solutions and other topics.
