South Texas Chapter Celebrates New President With Unique Tradition

ASSP’s South Texas Chapter recently held its annual officer transition meeting to welcome Chapter President Teresa English. The chapter's celebration introduced a unique tradition—a chapter presidential time capsule. The time capsule was fashioned as a lock box with ASSP South Texas Chapter medallions.

"The idea for the presidential chapter time capsule came to me one night while walking our dogs in May,” says South Texas Chapter member Damon Shodrock. “I asked my local Grainger safety specialist if he could donate the lockout/tagout box, hasp and locks. Grainger fully supported the idea. I had a custom label made at a local trophy shop.” The box contains a copy of the chapter’s past presidents, a list of the past chapter presidents, a copy of the chapter’s history and a challenge coin engraved with the years 2018-2019. The Chapter President, Teresa English, will add a memento to the box before she hands it over to the next chapter president.

"This is a new tradition for our chapter, so we will make up the rules as we go,” says Shodrock.
