NACOSH Appoints ASSP Members

Several ASSP members have been appointed to the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH). According to OSHA, the committee provides substantive input on workplace safety and health issues, ideas to reduce worker illness and fatalities, and feedback on OSHA and Department of Health and Human Services initiatives to improve worker safety and health.

Michael Belcher, CSP, was appointed to serve a 2-year term as an occupational safety representative. He is a professional member of our Georgia Chapter, and a member of the Society’s Consultants Practice Specialty and Emerging Professionals in OSH Common Interest Group. Belcher also serves on ASSP’s Council on Academic Affairs and Research, and our Nominations and Elections Committee.

Mark Friend, President of our Space Coast Chapter as well as a member of our Academics Practice Specialty, was appointed as a public representative. He is a professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL.

Amy Harper, Ph.D., CSP, SMS, was appointed to serve a 1-year term as a management representative. She is a professional member of our Puget Sound Chapter, a member of our Women in Safety Excellence Common Interest Group, and Consultants and Risk Management/Insurance practice specialties. Harper works as director of workplace strategy and consulting operations at National Safety Council.

Cynthia Lewis, M.S.P.H., CSP, ASP, was appointed to serve a 2-year term as a public representative. She is a professional member of our Gulf Coast Chapter and a member of the Academics, and Training and Communications practice specialties. Lewis is director of the Gulf Coast Safety Institute at College of the Mainland.

Andrew Perkins, M.S., CSP, CIH, COHC, a professional member of our Alabama Chapter, was appointed to serve a 1-year term as a public representative. He is a senior industrial hygienist at Alabama Power Co.

Kelli Smith was appointed to serve a 1-year term as an occupational safety representative. She is a member of our Central Indiana Chapter, and Healthcare, Industrial Hygiene and International practice specialties. Smith works as an occupational health director at Cummins Inc.

William Walkowiak, CSP, was appointed to serve a 2-year term as a management representative. He is a professional member of our National Capital Chapter and a member of the Construction, Military and Public Sector practice specialties. Walkowiak is director of occupational safety policy and programs at the office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Air Force for Environment, Safety and Infrastructure.
