    Researchers are seeking to determine the effectiveness of current OSH education programs at community and technical colleges. The project is being conducted by researchers from UC Berkeley’s Labor Occupational Health Program (LOHP) and West Virginia University and funded through a grant from CPWR, The Center for Construction Research and Training.

    The subgroup developing a proposed American National Standard addressing automated vehicles is working on developing the content and identifying next steps. The subgroup (Z15.3) is part of the ANSI/ASSP Z15 Accredited Standards Committee that focuses on safety requirements for motor vehicle operations.

    Safety 2017 achieves record number of attendees and exhibitors

    The final numbers are in, and ASSE has officially held its biggest safety conference and exposition in the event’s 56-year history. Safety 2017 in Denver attracted 5,244 attendees and 640 exhibitors, easily surpassing its previous highs. Attendance was up 23 percent from last year’s event. Nearly one-fourth of the crowd was non-members.

    NIOSH Assesses Young Worker Fatality Trends

    A new NIOSH report examines young worker fatalities that occurred between 1994 and 2013. The report presents information by demographic characteristics, employer characteristics, incident circumstances and temporal patterns. During this time period, 942 occupational fatalities occurred among youth workers, 88% of whom were male.

    More than two weeks before Safety 2017 in Denver, ASSE already knows this year’s turnout will rank No. 1 in the event’s 56-year history. Registrations have climbed to 4,730, and the event has a chance to exceed 5,000 attendees. ASSE’s previous record crowd occurred at Safety 2011 in Chicago, which attracted 4,535 participants.
